Description:   Ipe is the most dense and durable hardwood specie we offer.  The color of this specie depends greatly on the region grown.  It ranges from light brown/tan color to dark brown with olive to black/brown overtones.  Our material, coming from Brazil, tends toward a medium to rich dark brown.

Janka Hardness :  3680

Workability :  Because of Ipe's extreme density, it can be very taxing on machinery, especially the blades, but the end result is worth the extra effort.  Also use caution as some installers have reported a skin allergy to the dust produced when working with this particular specie.

Duribility :  Ipe was the specie of choice when constructing the Panama Canal because it has impressive sustainability to inclement weather conditions, warping, marring/denting, fungi, fire, rot and insects.  Given a 100 year lifetime warranty.
